Created in 1970 at the Federal Research Station in Pully by crossing Gamay and Reichtensteiner (a white grape variety of German origin), it was first used as a blending wine. But its advantages as a wine grape variety in its own right were soon spotted. It was in the early 1990s that it took off in Geneva.
